The details

I started writing music around the age of 10 but never really took myself seriously. I had big dreams to write, record, perform, and tour, but I was too scared to voice it. Musical theater, singing at church, and random gigs definitely built my confidence, but sharing original music was terrifying. However, when I auditioned for the South Carolina School of the Arts at Anderson University in 2021, I had no idea that my songwriting would not only be accepted but appreciated.

As a freshman, I had an original worship song called “Rest” featured in the President’s Gala. I have had four originals featured in our university’s commercial bands— “Learn my Lesson,” “22nd Street,” “Changing Me,” and “To Whom it May Concern”— which I have performed live with my best friends. My college roommate and I wrote my first single “Almost October” in a tiny practice room and recorded it in friend/producer Joel McCann’s bedroom studio. I released “Sunset State of Mind” as a voice memo which I recorded in my church sanctuary. “to whom it may concern:” was written and recorded at Anderson University with the help of lots of talented friends.

I’m still learning who I am as an artist, as I’m sure I will be for the rest of my life. I love blues, rock, and funk, but I’m also a sucker for acoustic ballads, lo-fi bops, and folky soul-searchers. Whatever it sounds like, I truly do just love writing and performing songs from my heart. I believe it’s a form of therapy and expression as well as a tool to reach the hearts of those who listen for the glory of the One who made us.

As always, it’s from Him, through Him, and to Him <3
